Besh o Drom - Gyi! (2005)

Besh o droM is an hungarian band influenced by traditional balkan rythms, rock and some electronic sonorities. They play fast and festive music and they are getting popular since balkan music compilations (Balkan Beats, Electric Gypsyland,...) use some of their tracks on their playlists. If you liked bands presented in the previous posts (shantel, fanfare ciocarlia, balkan beats, Balkan fever, Gogol Bordelo,...), then get into Besh o droM! They have great horn section, great singer and some other nice balkanics instruments.

Marcy Playground - Sex & Candy is Evil

There are so many bands on the radio that have this sickeningly popular hit that drives people mad (good and bad) and then are pretty much never heard from again. Well, if you were one of the lucky one's who bought Marcy Playground's self titled "Marcy Playground" you will notice that the album's brilliance was most definitely overshadowed by one song...and here's a bands dichotomous relationship with that one song that peg's them as "that band that did that one song...you know?" for the rest of their lives...on one hand you have a hit single that will pretty much put a nice check in your mailbox for 20 years to come, but with that comes the pressure to repeat which in my opinion Marcy Playground did with "Shapeshifter" except no single. Who gives a fuck about the single? The album as a whole is great. And to my surprise there has been an album out for quite some time entitled "MP3" from the Playground that I'm just getting into (the first song is a RIPPER by the way)...this is why Top 40 Sucks. It takes the art of a band...sucks it dry...expects the band to recreate brilliance for the non-musical masses in order to turn art into money. If that doesn't happen...well into the dumpster you go. Top 40 Sucks.

P.S. There must be some fans out there...check out the ratings on Amazon for the previously 3 mentioned albums.

Rapidshare Music Download Summary

Here's the list of all rapidshare links (carefully selected by myself :-) from the beginning. Get good music, go to concerts, buy albums and support bands. Share with friends, and enjoy!

FIREWATER - GOLDEN HOUR (2008)

...some seriously exotic magic was created....proving, yet again, that Firewater is one ofthe most criminally under-appreciated band in the American underground. The alt-musicveteran delivers his finest hour. This is funky, furious bouillabaisse of fuzzy Gypsy-punk guitars, tart Bollywood strings and throbbing hand-drums.
Drinking songs for the thinking man and a hell of a lot of fun with heavy subject matter.

Check out videos to get some insight about Firewater. Brilliant music!!

Outorogod

Yeah! Another African music blog, loving it! Check out Outorogod. "Oro is invisible. He is only audible by the rhomb's sound. Oro is a musical Voodoo". There is a lot to see and listen to on this blog: traditional music, voodoo (check out the compilations), African rock, African Jazz and even some soul. The music comes from Niger, Benin, Ghana among other African countries. This is good news for the fans (of which I am one)!

Melomanoamable

Melomanoamable is yet another good eclectic (Spanish) music blog. Melomanoamable does not only Electronic music however, you will also find here: experimental sound, a bit of Arabic music, Flamenco, Rumba, Spanish Hip Hop etc. Most of the music is of Spanish origin. Updates are on an irregular basis and come together with a short Spanish description (sometimes with a video) to the album discussed. Although the blog is relatively new, it is worth checking out.

El Hombre Infinito 8

Mckinon has been nagging me for weeks now to add his blog here. Normally, I really detest people that spam me and give them accordingly and appropriately an instant ban. However his El Hombre Infinito 8 is not all that bad. Mckinon provides you with mostly homemade podcasts (from Radiohead to The Beatles and beyond) on his not so frequently updated blog. Although there are not a lot of posts as of yet, it is definitely still worth a glimpse.

LA Friendly

LA Friendly is a pretty new English/ French blog which brings you cool music for cool people. Expect heavy electro sounds, liquid acid trips, revibed hiphop mixes, new wave electronic among other delicacies. Posts are dropped on a frequent, daily basis. This blog has potential and I am sure it will even only get better. Enjoy, cos this stuff is well recommended!

Mammal, Pinback, Tantric

Recently I discovered a band that has blown my mind. Mammal is a great new band based out of Australia. Ever since I first entered their myspace page, I have been hooked to their music. They recently released their first studio album, "The Majority," on September 4th. The song I will be previewing here is the title track off of the album. If you like what you hear, I definitely recommend that you visit their website and listen to their other songs, you won't be disappointed.

Tantric released their third studio album "The End Begins," on April of this year. They are probably most known for having an electric violin in the group which brings a unique sound unlike many other rock bands. Their single "Down and Out" has gained them international recognition. The song I will be featuring from them today is "The One," which was suggested to me by a viewer.

Pinback is actually a band that has been around for quite a while. I just recently discovered them, however. I was very impressed with their song "Fortress." Though it isn't necessarily new, I felt that it was still worth mentioning.

Miscreant Productions

Miscreant Productions (love the logo) is a very interesting early electro/ booty blog. A good selection of electro sounds, sample sources and Miami bass rhythms provides the visitor enough to listen to on this now officially classic electro and booty music blog. Although, recently the posts have come in smaller numbers, Miscreant Productions still is an essential place for people with a love for the nostalgic, early days of urban street noise. I am sure there is enough stuff (beyond only music) here to keep you busy for a while. A true recommendation, they rock!

AusPopMix

AusPopMix provides you with a growing collection of 80's pop and rock (INXS, Breakfast Club etc). The blog is yet brand new and the amount of posts is thus still limited. Nevertheless, it looks as if this blog could be well worth a bookmark for future reference.

House Music @ 18 BPM

House Music @ 18 BPM delivers well... House music at 128 beat per minute, of course! Posts are dropped on a daily basis and consist of sub genres such as Progressive House, Techno House, Electro House among other things. Although the blog is relatively new ( the author commenced in August this year), everything seems in place to make this place worth visiting. Enjoy.

OG Latansa

OG Latansa is specialised in both contemporary Arab music and more traditional music from the Middle East. A fine niche blog which usefully categorises its assortment of posts in the labels: Video Clips (50 posts), Male Voice (44 posts), Female Voice (38 posts) and Top Arabic Mp3s of 2008 (37 posts). Posts come regularly (sometimes 3 a day) and are of good quality. In other words, a well-recommended blog for the fans of world music and unmissable for the lovers of Arab music! Good job, guys!

The Fucking Champs are THE FUCKING CHAMPS!

Alright metal fools...if you haven't heard of the metal instrumental trio "The Fucking Champs" from San Francisco I HIGHLY recommend it's high fucking time you did. I've never heard 2 guitar players and a drummer make such incredibly intricate, bone crushing, tasteful, tone full, part cheese (in a good way), METAL in my life? Take the best riffs from Metallica, Maiden, Dio, Kings X, and meld them together (take out any singing for the most part) and you have The Champs...well you can't call them The Champs..they've already been sued for that so they called themselves The Fucking Champs...which is much more fitting... recording only to analog tape/equipment and using old analog synths, 6, and 9 string guitars (9 strings?) the trio blasts out shit that'll have you rockin' like Beavis and Butthead in no time. Check 'em out. Recommended starting album: "VI". The Fucking Champs are:

Tim Soele
Drums, Guitar, Synthesizer

Phil Manley
6 and 9 string guitars, Acoustiic Guitar, Piano, Bass, Guitar Synth, Synthesizer

Tim Green
Guitar, Baritone Guitar, Vocals (extremely limited)

Go download a bunch of The Fucking Champs here

The Jackboyz

The Jackboyz is a kool looking Hip Hop blog complete with albums and music videos. The Jackboyz have their base in the US HH scene and promise to deliver you daily updates. Expect names such as DJ Muggs, Nas, DJ Quick, DJ Premier, Talib Kweli among many new and older US HH legends. Definitely not a bad place to hang around a bit. Keep it up guys.

Radio Rommeltje

Radio Rommeltje can, judging by its name, only be a Dutch blog. Am I right or am I right? Well, it might also be Flemish. Anyways, Radio Rommeltje is a relatively new blog which provides you with mostly popular music from the 80s, 90s and today. Expect albums from Whitney Houston, Avril Lavigne, The Pet Shop Boys and some Euro things. It still looks a bit uncertain which direction this blog will take, but the beginning is made.

R-T-C

R-T-C (no, I have no idea what that stands for) is a very good blog which does Rock, Pop (43 posts), Indie (95 posts), Electronica (70), Metal (43), Acoustic (27) and Rock (90) among many other genres (Dance, Hip Hop , New Wave etc). This multi-disciplinary blog knows its stuff well and provided you with both quality albums and entire discographies. I have seen everything from Roots Manuva to Limb Bizkit and from Shitdisco to Tool. The contents loads easy and the music is plenty (updates are at least daily and up to 100 posts a month). Very convincing good stuff, no doubt. Still, I would love to know what R-T-C stands for! Anybody?

Rio Groove FM

Rio Groove FM is Brazilian, hot and... groovy. Tito Puente (Latin Jazz), Jimmy Castor (Disco Funk), Raul Mascarenhas (Brazilian Jazz), Brooklyn Funk Essentials (of course!), you will all find them at Rio Groove FM. Posts are updated daily together with a short review in Portuguese. A good place also to grow love for the latin groove. Enjoy.

Kucsimuka

Kucsimuka is a pretty straight forward blog where you are able to download fine Blues, Jazz & Pop and Rock music. A nice feature is that the links are provided through anonymz. The posts are both in English and in Hungarian and updated every two to three days or so. The selection is good and diverse. Well recommended.

Fire Drills

Fire Drills is a relatively new blog which provides reviews and publishes single MP3s. The reviews are short and concise and give you a good understanding of what to expect from the music under discussion. Expect reviews from Moondoggies (Rock), The Features (Psych. Rock), Greg Laswell (Indie Rock) and Night Marchers (Punk Rock). Useful blog for information on lesser known rock/ indie bands.

Outside Lands San Francisco - An audio disaster of no proportion

Yeah, Yeah...this post is incredibly late, but I've been thinking a lot about what I witnessed Friday, Aug 22nd and Sat, August 23rd at Outside Lands, an incredibly ambitious 3 day music festival in Golden Gate park, San Francisco. Something happened that I have never in my life seen and heard at a show...something so insanely out of the realm of possibility that when this particular moment arrived 100k+ people's jaw hit the floor...back to this moment in a sec...let me brief you on the day.

We arrive at the show early (a SMART thing it turns out) to an incredible fairytale layout of tents, windmills, lighted Cypress trees, and music from all angles. If I were still in college I probably would have seen dancing bears and Chinese dragons too. Excited we walk into Steel Pulse who set the mood as an opener for this festival perfectly...great call concert promoters. Even though Steel Pulse has been around for many moons they were extremely tight and bled the peaceful Rasta vibe that got everyone moving and in the mood. Awesome so far.

Manu Chao is up next on our agenda, GREAT! I've been hearing great things, but wait...BECK is scheduled to start 10min after they start. Fuck. Ok, 10min of Manu Chao and then let's go to BECK. Manu Chao is KILLING IT. The crowd is going crazy and fuck it all if we have to leave...I mean it's BECK for God's sake. So we journey across Golden Gate fields running into the largest corralled group of people bottlenecked into an area 25 feet wide trying to get from the main stage to where Beck was playing...NOW we understand just how big this thing is. After an incredible fight for positioning like no other I've ever experienced...BECK! or should I say beck :( If that wasn't the most lack luster show I've seen in a while than you can shove your foot up my ass and shit down my neck. GAWD, what a disappointment. Beck seemed to almost SLEEP through the set barely moving, metal hair in his face, shitty guitar tones...disappointing. Ok, let's go...20min to Radiohead!

So we knee, elbow, and fight our way through 25k+ people back to the cattle drive to get back to the main stage to claim our land for Radiohead. We had been afforded VIP tickets (HIGHLY recommended if you can get them bought for you) so were front row stage left. AWESOME. Radiohead comes on to an absolutely fucking mind blowing set leaving no doubt that they are the rock and roll arena giants of our time...and then the impossible happens...every bands nightmare...every fans annoyance...every sound electricians pink slip...every sound man’s death certificate.

The sound stops.

It just cuts out like someone tripped over the main cord that powered the whole front of house speaker system. Confusion. A mass sigh of "Whaaaaa!?". A faint sound of a band coming from the on stage monitors. The end is here. It's the fucking Rapture. 15-20 seconds go by, but Radiohead is still playing...the sounds pops back on as quickly as it pop's off. The crowd ROARS!!! ALL IS SAVED!!!! until 3 minutes go by and the same thing happens again...this time Thom York obviously pissed mentioning that "I don't know what the fuck is going on" and apologizes profusely. Un-fucking-real. I'm surprised a riot didn't break out. I about started one.

Now the good news is that the sound came back...the sun went down...Radiohead picked themselves up by the bootstraps and showed why they are professionals and beat out a perfect set being the first band in history to play Golden Gate Park at night...it truly turned back to amazing in a gratifying hurry... HUGE props to Radiohead. Amazing.

The nights over...the audio blunder behind us we head home with high hopes for Sat. thinking what we witnessed operationally would never happen again...oh contraire mon friar. To make a long story longer and skipping the best musical act IMO (I'll touch on this later) I'll jump to the most amazing blunder even WORSE than what happened during Radiohead's set.

Imagine this...It's night time in golden Gate Park. The Cypress trees are glowing red, purple, orange all around the park. Tom Petty is KILLING it on the main stage to a crowd where you can not see the end North, South, East, or West...this is fucking MASSIVE. People dancing all around...you get the idea...BUT! all of the sudden Steve Winwood pops on stage and The Heartbreakers bust into a full set of old Traffic tunes! HOLY SHIT! If this isn't a moment in music history then you're outta your mind. The crowd absolutely ERUPTS! And then...yes folks...it happens.

The sound cuts out. Once, twice, then three times during this magical moment. I fucking lost it...HOW? WHY? Where's the sound man...I'm going to wring his fucking neck! Were people pissed, disappointed? You can only imagine...it was a disaster. Petty, Winwood, and the Heartbreakers finish like the pros that they are never acknowledging the audio blunders. The crowd leaves extremely satisfied, but with a dark hole in their soul.

Me? I leave with the thought that I saw the most amazing set earlier in the day at one of the side stages...a band like no other...a power trio coming together to absolutely crush this festival and make my musical concert going year. Primus. You Suck.

Doctor Mario

Doctor Mario is a Spanish, Catalan Blog which provides you with music commentaries from different epochs. I find it difficult to catagorise this blog, but expect a wide range of different music genres ranging from The Deadly Snakes (Indie Rock), Tom Waites, The Staple Singers (Gospel) to Alex Chilton (known from his work with Box Tops and Big Star). The blog is updated twice to thrice a month or so. For those whose Spanish is better than mine this blog must be welcomed.

Scott Gill

Scott Gill is a somewhat difficult blog at first, but once you get the hang out of it, it all becomes clear and pretty straight-forward. This link generating blog is organised alphabetically by the name of the band, artist or DJ you are looking for. As soon as you found what you were looking for, the link will take you to Gill Scott's Wiki Site (master site categorsised by music band is to be found here), where you are able to find a great amount of third links to albums of the music you were initially looking for. Still difficult? Go ahead an try it out yourself, thus stuff is well recommended!

InnerPartySystem, The Voyces, Family Force 5

Formally known as The Takeover, InnerPartySystem is quickly making their rise in the music industry. Their newest single, "Don't stop," which is featured here today, was chosen to be a song in the new Madden 2009 game. The band themselves signed a deal to play during the Project Revolution Tour, The Wireless Festival, Lollapalooza, and a series of Club NME shows. Their newest album, "Die Tonight, Live Forever," is set to be released on September 29th, with their title track set to be released on September 22nd. Check back around that time and I am sure I will feature their new single. That is of course, if they can make it as good as this one.

I am proud to present this next band. It is a little slower than a lot of the songs that have been previously featured here, but is still a great listen. The Voyces are an up and coming band that was actually referred to me by a viewer of the website. I would recommend checking out the band. They have more of their music up for download on their website.

Family Force 5 is back with their latest, recently released album, "Dance or Die." These guys are a blast to watch live and I will be sure not to miss their next appearance in Atlanta. Though their latest album isn't their best, it is still worth listening to. This is one of their latest singles, "Fever."

Retro Universe

Retro Universe is well a... 80s blog of course! The site is regularly (daily) updated and features a whole range of quality music. For the 80s generation names such as Julien Lennon (the son of), Eruption (I can't stand the Rain), Rupert Holmes (escape) and Smithereens (recommended stuff) must sound familiar. A well recommended blog for the fans and a great job the blog's contributor has already done and is doing. My thanks to him!

Ultra8201

Ultra8201 is an Austin (Texas, US) based blog which provides you with "tour dates, (single) MP3s, concert pictures and (music) videos". Expect an emphasis on music from Coldplay, Ben Harper and Radiohead but also (though to lesser extent) from Ghostface and Spank Rock. The two contributors to a good job in keeping the blog interesting and update their site at least every two to three days. Thanks guys, keep it up!

Hidden Track

Hidden Track is a professional looking blog which has the "great vision to cover anything having to do with music" (paraphrased). The blog is related to Glide Magazine, an online mag which provides you with reviews, single MP3 downloads, columns etc. Hidden Track is a nice daily updated blog which gives you everything from the latest on Alice Cooper, links to Mp3s to remixes and concert reviews. Schedule some time to visit this one, because there is a lot to be seen here. A blog to be enjoyed!

Música y Cómic

Música y Cómic is a small Spanish music blog which mixes (mostly rock) music and comics. The comics you'll find on the page, while the download links are to be found in the posts' comments. Moustacheland

Finally for today then there is Moustacheland. A fine name for a blog with a range of House DJ Remixes and Bootlegs. Besides some albums and single MP3s (25 posts), expect a lot of videos (38 posts in total). A blog worth checking out for the fans of House and Club music.

Mood Swings Music

TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP

Today's second blog is Mood Swings Music. It is difficult to describe this blog in a few lines. This is not a bad thing, but makes my job more interesting! Where to begin? With some names: "Milemaker (Punk/ New Wave), Killing Joke (Post-punk), Dennis Wilson (Baroque Pop), Eric le Lann (Jazz) and even Van Morrison. Another good thing, apart from the wide variety of music and music genres, is the fact that Mood Swings Music is updated on a daily basis. Sometimes the blog even has more than one post a day. This blog is TIPPED without doubt.

Eclectic Grooves

At Eclectic Grooves one can find "everything but the kitchen sink". Rap, Psych Fuzz Rock, Electro-Jazz, Free Folk, you name it, Eclectic Grooves probably has it. The lay-out is simple, yet clear and straight-forward, updates are seemingly almost on a weekly basis. The music selection is diverse, albeit of good quality. Yes, this blog is a winner! Go ahead and check out!

Mp3 Start and It's Linked

Mp3 Start has a nice music selection of music blogs and also uploads single MP3s to zshare. The listed blogs are not categorised by genre or alphabetical, but are nevertheless clearly visible to every viewer. The seems to be a emphasis on hiphop music, but also other genres are represented. Not bad, not at all.

TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP-TIP

A lot better even is their other blog, It's Linked. A good place to search and find your favourite tracks and albums. In fact the idea behind It's Linked is quite brilliant indeed. Simply type your query in a Google box and search the results for all your favourite Hip Hop, Rap RnB, Soul and other audio files. The site is still in Beta phase, but could well prove to be a good alternative for your average Google/ Yahoo search. Definitely worth checking out - TIP!

Sound Roots

Sound Roots is a pretty cool blog which does world music and global culture. The latter intends to add a bit of political and historical background information to the music discussed. There are only a few full albums available, but there are lots of samples available. I (out of my own interest) especially appreciate the blog's post on Chinese POP music. Well worth a few minutes of your time.

Son Kullanma Tarihi Olmayan Müzik Yazıları

Sehirliderviş seems to be a Turkish owned blog. Don't hate me when I am wrong, our Turkish is somewhat rusty! Anyways, Sehirliderviş does Metallica, The Walkmen (Indie Rock), The Moody Blues, Black Stone Cherry (Post-grunge, Hard Rock) and other alternative music genres. It is a pity my knowledge of Turkish is so limited, otherwise I think I could discover some good Turkish bands/ artists. Nevertheless, this blog is promising and well recommended for those with an alternative spirit. Enjoy.

Back

We have come back from our respective holidays and are now accepting and adding new blogs again. Enjoy our new selection of quality music at the place where music lovers begin.

Metallica, 10 Years, Rise Against

With the summer slowing down, new music is becoming more rare. However, this week has been pretty big on new music. Metallica recently released their newest song, "The Day that Never Comes." It comes from their upcoming album "Death Magnetic," which is set to be released September the 12th of this year. This song definitely isn't my favorite from them, but I will have to hear it a couple more times before I make my final judgement.

10 Years have been having a lot of success lately. Their new album has a lot of good stuff on it, so I figured that I would share another one of their songs off of their latest album they released in May, "Division." They toured this summer on the Project Revolution Tour, which featured such bands as Linkin Park, Ashes Divide, and Chris Cornell.

Rise Against has been busy this summer with performing at the Warped Tour and putting the finishing touches on their latest album which is set to be released on October 7th, 2008. This is a track from this album called, "Re-Education(Through Labor)"
