It's a confusing time.

Paul McCartney's forthcoming album for Starbucks' new Hear Music label will be the former Beatle's first album for a label other than EMI Records or one of its affiliates.

New RUSH single - "Far Cry" from the Album "Snakes and Arrows"

It's out! The new RUSH single "Far Cry" from the new album "Snakes and Arrows". It's definitely an expansion from the feel of the "Vapor Trails" album and is undeniably, RUSH. "Snakes and Arrows" releases May 1st.

Check out Far Cry

Wolfmother - AOL Sessions and the Letterman show

Wolfmother is bad ass...the bass/keyboard player is a little goofy, but the raw sound created by vintage instruments (sweet Gibson SG, old Marshalss heads and cabs, and a Rickenbacker) and a cool voice is killer. Check out all the Wolfmother AOL sessions or watch them on the Letterman show. Enjoy. Oh, Wolfmother tix for The Warfield go on sale March 18th.

The Shins @ The Theater at Madison Square Garden, 3/14/07

They said it was the biggest show they ever played.

They covered Modern Lovers' Someone I Care About.

And they closed with So Says I.

Here's an article about a different show on PitchforkMedia.com.

The Theater at Madison Square Garden is not the massive space at MSG. It's probably 4 or 5 thousand seats. The Shins were good. I wasn't blown down (until the Modern Lovers cover). I think they might be better on record. Wincing the Night Away is a good consistent album. I feel like the earlier ones had more "hits."

The crowd was mostly seated except the 12 or so superfans in front of me.

We are a brutal kind.

Fall Out Boy Blows Chunks

That's it. They just plain blow chunks.

Music Widgets

Author Jay C
from Gather.com

Music has been online for quite some time now. We've seen its existence become larger and more impactful, defining generational culture and representing much of what the Internet has grown to be. The most powerful online network was created for the purpose of enabling the self-promotion of music, and many web-based apps and services have sprouted in its long shadow.

The most recent wave of activity within the online music industry is of course widgets. Considering the number of eyes that MySpace catches, most of the music widgets are optimized to function on this platform. These music widgets have different functions, but all aid in the continued self-promotion of artists.

Topple is Having a Party!

I know most if not all of the faithful Top 40 sucks folks won't be around but, Topple is throwing a St. Paddy's day party in east Austin instead of trompin through, South by Who Cares. I also apologize for my absence from the board, but lining up the bands, brauts, beers, and burlesque has not been as easy as one might think.

still waiting for the Ullimike album,

More than 100 keynotes and panels at the 2007 SXSW Interactive Festival will be recorded in full and released over the coming months. Stay tuned to the podcast blog for more details.

Short videos from SXSW 2007

From clips of panel programming to highlights of StudioSX interviews to snippets from SXSW Music Festival showcases, the video blog gives you an impressive sample of what happens at the 2007 event.

South by Southwest draws more than 1,300 bands and thousands of fans to Austin, Tex., for a four-day music festival in the middle of every March. Part concert experience, part trade show, and part spring break, SXSW offers a virtually limitless smorgasbord of sound, bringing together longsuffering road warriors, cult favorites, and unsigned newcomers, all scattered throughout a vibrant city's dozens of busy clubs.

Throughout the music festival, held March 14-17, NPR will offer a blog ("Temporary Texans"), in which readers can hear music from participating acts, read about the highlights and lowlights, and maybe even find a new favorite band. Plus, in a collaboration with NPR stations KCRW (Santa Monica, Calif.), KEXP (Seattle), KUT (Austin), WFUV (New York City) and WXPN (Philadelphia), more than two dozen live shows will stream on the site throughout the days to come — see the schedule below.

R.E.M., Van Halen Lead Rock Hall's '07 Class

March 13, 2007, 12:50 AM ET (from billboard.com)

Van Halen, whose planned summer reunion tour with David Lee Roth derailed in recent weeks, was represented only by Roth's replacement, Sammy Hagar, and original bassist Michael Anthony, who was unceremoniously booted from the band in the past year. Roth reportedly refused to attend the ceremony after squabbling with Rock Hall organizers about what songs he would perform, and neither of the Van Halen brothers were on hand (Eddie Van Halen entered rehab for undisclosed reasons last week).

Instead, Velvet Revolver performed a medley of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "Best of Both Worlds," while Hagar and Anthony jammed on "Why Can't This Be Love" with the house band. "I can't tell you how much I wish everyone was here tonight," Hagar said. "[But] I think Eddie's going to come out the other side a better person, and maybe we'll get our buddy back. You couldn't have kept me from here with a shotgun." Added Anthony, "I'd like to say god bless you to Edward Van Halen. He's home getting some help. I love you, man."

FROM EDDIE

March 8, 2007 (from van-halen.com)

I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I’m doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart.

Love,

Ed

Radiohead's Thom Yorke Becomes Speed Painting Subject

March 5, 2007 (from Spin.com)

Blogger posts a time-lapse video of a Thom Yorke portrait in the making, tripping out audiences across web.

Radiohead's frontman Thom Yorke is arguably one of the most respected artists of the last decade. But that hasn't stopped one Photoshop wizard from flipping Yorke's role, placing the eco-conscious frontman at the center of his own masterpiece. The video, a time-lapse rendering of Yorke created via Photoshop, is set to a soundtrack of Radiohead tunes. An acoustic rendition of The Bends' "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" and OK Computer's "Karma Police" has been launched from relative obscurity to one of Technorati.com's highest ranked video's across the web. While entertaining, amazing, and, to some bloggers, motivating, the time-lapse video also garners critical comments from bloggers who shout falsity and praise graspable physical art while detesting, in a semi-hypocritical fashion, digital art -- a situation likely summed up by Yorke and Co. in an obscure OK Computer B-side.

Is Popper a Pooper?

John Popper of Blues Traveler fame was arrested for drving 111 mph (he was the passenger, but it was his car) four rifles, nine handguns and a switchblade knife (found in secret compartments). They also found a Taser and night vision goggles. Popper told officers he collected weapons. Weird.

Poppler also had flashing emergency headlights, a siren and a public address system. Weirder.

"Popper indicated to troopers that he had installed these items in his vehicle because (in the event of a natural disaster) he didn't want to be left behind," the Patrol said. EXTREMELY WEIRD.

Officers also recovered a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe. The vehicle was seized. Not so weird.

Van Halen II

You're No Good
Dance the Night Away
Somebody Get Me a Doctor
Bottoms Up!
Outta Love Again
Light up the Sky
Spanish Fly
D.O.A.
Women in Love
Beautiful Girls

Van Halen needs to do a tour with Michael Anthony and play this album from top to bottom at every show. I would pay $254 with service fees to see that.

The Panic Channel kicks Rockstar Supernova's Ass at Oracle Arena - Oakland

Some friends of mine had 4 tickets to Rockstar Supernova and The Panic Channel at the Oracle Center in Oakland, Ca and asked my wife and I to go. At first I thought, "Are you kidding me? Pay $70 a ticket to watch a bunch of rockstar sell out's that really suck as TV personalities try to play rock and roll again?" OK! Unfortunately, our friends weren't able to make it so they gave us their tickets and I figured I could scalp them at the show and get them some money back. No dice. Not a soul around. I couldn't give 'em away...not even to the bums who asked for a beer in the parking lot. Oh well, we'll have 4, 14th row tickets and they'll just be 2 of us. Sweet!

Now, don't get me wrong here. I am a HUGE Jane's fan and Motley Crue's first 2 albums were life changing...but after watching that damn TV show, "Rockstar Supernova", it just made me want to puke. I actually went into withdrawal for 3 days (pun intended) thinking Dave Navarro, my guitar hero, has done the ultimate in selling his soul to the devil for money and left his guitar playing and dedication to SHRED in the crapper. I am wrong and I rescind all profanities said again Mr. Navarro. After watching Navarro rip with The Panic Channel I was re-converted and now have The Panic Channel, as ecstasteve puts it, "In heavy rotation". Navarro came out in standard no shirt, ripped to all hell with his signature white Paul Reed Smith and just blazed through the entire set. And having Steven Perkins on the kit was an extra added bonus. He's a drum god by all means. And Steve Isaacs has one of the most powerfully melodic vocals in rock right now. Chris Chaney of NEW Jane's Addiction Fame pounded out some thumping bass that made Perkin's kick sound like thunder.

Now, the fun part of this and extremely deceiving was before The Panic Channel was an all-star cast of Rockstar Supernova losers who sang songs together, covered some Who, and ultimately got all the fat bottomed girls with ripped up black tee's and smokey breath all excited. These were the true fans of the show and screamed like a fire alarm glued to the top of my skull any chance they got. Needless to say I had to turn around and tell them to shut the F*@& up because my ears were bleeding and needed immediate medical attention. Now I see why el Ticknor wears ear plugs to shows...not because the music is too loud, but because of the screaming teenage, big bottomed girls with extremely powerful lungs. This was pure entertainment in a whole new way.

Lastly, the big act. Not the band we all came for, but the MAN we all came for. Ladies and Gentlemen! May I introduce to you...MR.....TOMMY LEE!!! Oh, and Supernova. Holy crap was Tommy Lee a super bad, kick the sh*t outta anyone near him, gimme my sticks and let me show YOU how the drums were meant to be played MOTHER F'ER. His kick drum was the size of a tractor trailer wheel and made my heart go into palpitations everytime he kicked it. Man, is Tommy Lee and entertainer or what? I have a new found respect for Tommy Lee... especially after his incredible drum solo using his insanely large and famous Tallywacker. Really. It was amazing. The drum rolls he did with that thing were sick...Pamela didn't leave because she didn't love him anymore...it's because of that....that...DONG. Awesome show Tommy...tell the back up band that it's crap that Jason Newsted wasn't on bass as was billed and that ultimately, The Panic Channel KICKED YOUR BANDS ASS!
